Michael R. Bloomberg founded the company in 1981. Prior to founding the company, Mr. Bloomberg was general partner at Salomon Brothers, where he headed equity trading, sales and, later, systems development. Mr. Bloomberg is a 1964 graduate of Johns Hopkins University and a 1966 graduate of Harvard Business School. A native of Boston, Mr. Bloomberg was born on February 14, 1942 and currently resides in New York City. He authored his biography, Bloomberg by Bloomberg, in 1997. Michael R. Bloomberg was elected mayor of New York City on November 6, 2001.
